Outings

During our retreats we use carefully chosen outings to enrich reflection.

Roger and Maggie will accompany you on these outings so there is plenty of time to walk and talk, receiving coaching, counselling and the benefits of being heard.

Outings include

  • A historic castle with stone walls and battlements, surrounded by trees and under a partly cloudy sky during sunset.

    Arundel castle and gardens.

    originally built around 1067 as a motte-and-bailey castle, with a stone shell keep and curtain walls added in the 12th century. It inspired the castle in The Frozen cartoon.

  • Fishbourne Roman Palace.

    the largest Roman home in Britain, featuring large sections of intricate original mosaics.

    HMS Victory

    Admiral Nelson’s warship ordered for the Royal Navy in 1758; the world’s oldest naval vessel still in commission.

    Chichester Cathedral and gardens: originally constructed from 1075 our local cathedral creates a beautiful canopy of arches under which to pray and reflect. Peaceful gardens etched by the Roman city wall welcome every visitor.

    Boxgrove Priory Church

Here’s some ideas for other places you could visit before or after your retreat:

  • The Vineyard hotel, from which you can visit Highclere Castle of Downton Abbey. Stockcross, Newbury, Berkshire, RG20 8JU01635 528770, https://www.the-vineyard.co.uk

  • If you are a hiker, walk a section of the South Downs Way, staying overnight in pubs and bed and breakfasts along this ancient way. The views and countryside are incredible, and you feel remote from the hustle of city life. It is very up and down so make sure you are feeling moderately fit and don’t have knee problems.   • New forest…you will find lots of bed and breakfasts on the internet as well as hotels and rustic pubs to stay in. A special place to stay is The Pig hotel if you have the budget. But you will also have a lovely visit if you stay in a traditional pub. The forest is great for gentle walks, and you will see wild ponies as you go.

  • Spend a few nights in London - it is only 1.5hrs on the train from the city to Chichester station, then a 10min taxi ride to our house. We recommend the Tower of London where you cannot beat seeing the Crown Jewels, also Buckingham Palace, the Tate Modern art gallery, or the Tate Britain to see the world’s largest display of JMW Turner’s work and so much more.

  • From London you can get the fast train to Edinburgh in Scotland in 4.5hrs, or from Chichester catch a 50min flight from the small airport at Southampton which is only 45mins drive from Treffos. Edinburgh will delight you with its Scottish culture, walk the Royal mile visitscotland.com to Edinburgh Castle, hear the bagpipes or hire a car and explore the beautiful highlands.
